This page is maintained by WJL Engineering to explain how CareerSynth ("we", "us") handles personal data when you visit our website and use the free CV Scan. It is written in plain language and is not legal advice. If anything is unclear, email us at hello@careersynth.com.
Who we are
The data controller is WJL Engineering, based in the Netherlands. For any privacy question or request, contact us at hello@careersynth.com.
What data we collect
- CV content you upload (PDF or DOCX) and the answers to the five CV Scan questions.
- Name and email extracted from your CV so we can identify the submission.
- Usage data such as pages viewed, referral source, approximate location, device and browser type. This is only collected if you accept analytics cookies.
- Communications you send us by email or the contact form.
Why we use it
- To generate and deliver your personalized CV Scan report.
- To operate, secure, and improve the website.
- To measure aggregate traffic and content performance (only with your consent).
- To reply to messages you send us.
Legal bases (GDPR)
We rely on performance of a service to process your CV and questionnaire so we can generate your report, legitimate interest to keep the site secure and functional, and consent for analytics and marketing cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time via the cookie banner.
Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies. When you first visit, we show a cookie banner and use Google Consent Mode v2. Until you choose, analytics and advertising storage are denied by default, so Google Analytics does not store identifiers or send analytics events tied to your device.
| Category | Purpose | Consent |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Remembering your language and cookie choice, keeping the site secure. | Always on |
| Analytics (Google Analytics 4) | Aggregate pageviews and CTA interactions to improve the site. | Only if you accept |
| Advertising | Not used today. Reserved via Consent Mode and denied by default. | Only if you accept |
You can change your choice any time by clearing the cs_cookie_consent value in your browser storage, which will re-show the banner on your next visit.
Who we share data with
We keep the number of processors small:
- Supabase: database and file storage for your CV and submission.
- Lovable AI Gateway: generates the CV Scan report from your CV and answers.
- Google Analytics: measures aggregate traffic, only if you accept analytics cookies.
- Cloudflare: hosting and edge delivery of the site.
Where a processor is located outside the EEA, transfers rely on the provider's Standard Contractual Clauses. We do not sell your personal data.
How long we keep it
Your document is read once and deleted within 24 hours. We do not store or keep it after your report is generated. When deletion happens, its stored file and the raw extracted text are removed, while the report generated from it stays available. Report and submission records are retained for 3 months, after which they are deleted. Payment and invoice records are kept for the period required by accounting law, without unnecessary personal detail. Contact emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your request.
Your rights
Under GDPR you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of your data, and object to processing based on legitimate interest. Email hello@careersynth.com and we will respond within one month. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Security
Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored on managed infrastructure with access controls. No system is perfectly secure. If you believe you have found a vulnerability, please email hello@careersynth.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page as the product changes. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top.
Trust and privacy
What happens to your documents
Plain answers to the questions worth asking before you upload anything. We list only what the product actually does today.
How your documents are used
Your CV or LinkedIn text is used for one purpose: producing your report. It is sent to the analysis model, the result is stored on your account, and it is never shown to other users or sold.
Training on your data
We do not use your documents to train models. CareerSynth runs on general-purpose Google Gemini models through the Lovable AI gateway and sends your content only as part of a single analysis request.
Where processing happens
Your file is held in private cloud storage, readable only by you and the analysis job, and is deleted within 24 hours. Analysis runs on Google Gemini via the Lovable AI gateway. We do not currently guarantee a fixed processing region, so we do not claim one.
How long files are kept
Your document is read once and deleted within 24 hours. We do not store or keep it after your report is generated. When deletion happens, the stored file and the raw extracted text both go, while the report generated from it stays on your account until you delete it, or write to hello@careersynth.com.
Deleting documents and your account
You can delete an individual document from your dashboard. Deleting your account from account settings removes your files, documents, reports and login. Payment records are kept for bookkeeping with the personal details stripped.
Which conclusions are AI-generated
Facts taken from your CV and the answers you type are your input. Interpretations, assumptions, career path comparisons, recommendations and the positioning score are model-generated. Each conclusion in the report is labelled with its type, its evidence and a confidence level so you can check the reasoning.
Why we ask for specific information
Current role, target role, years of experience, industry and ambitions are what make a comparison possible. Without a stated target, a report can only describe your CV; it cannot weigh one direction against another.
What CareerSynth does not do
CareerSynth supports a decision. It does not guarantee interviews, promotions or employment, and it does not rank you against the market. Read the full privacy statement.
